Marc van Roon

History
was born in The Hague, The Netherlands on November 2, 1967. He began classical piano lessons at the age of ten. His interest in jazz was sparkled at a young age by Marc's father, being a professional jazz pianist himself.

Education
Throughout high school and college Van Roon was studying with Dutch jazz pianists Frans Elsen and Rob van Kreeveld and classical piano with Geoffrey Madge and Lanny Kho. In 1986 Marc did the Berklee School of Music summer course in Perugia, Italy. Upon graduation from the Royal Music Conservatory in The Hague in May 1991, he began postgraduate studies in New York ('92-'93) with pianists Richie Beirach, Kenny Werner and Barry Harris.

other activities
For the Netherlands Dance Theatre in The Hague Marc composed and arranged ballet music for choreographer Paul Lightfoot's 'softly as I leave you' in 1994 and for Johan Inger's choreography Melantid in 1995.
Marc is currectly a music educator at the jazz conservatories in Groningen and The Hague.
Marc van Roon founded the organisation Art in Rhythm together with percussionist Joshua Samson in '96. Art in Rhythm is now a multinational training organisation designing and running creative learning and performance programmes through the utilisation of the art of music and improvisation for groups and organisations. Marc & Art in Rhythm have been invited to contribute to the wellbeing, growth and development of large corporations, governments, management training centres, learning communities, and think-tank centres world-wide by using the art of interactive performance, listening, creativity and improvisation.
In 2001 two solo projects have been released on Apple on the Moon records. Firstly, a duo album with David Liebman, containing a selection of free improvised dialogues. Secondly, a quartet album with Liebman, percussionist Joshua Samson and cellist Ernst Reijseger.

Roy Dackus

Roy Dackus (‘64) has started to play the drums at the age of 5. As his father was a professional drummer the drumkit was always available at the ‘Dackus’ home. In 1983 he started to study drums at the Hilversum Conservatory were he graduated ‘cum laude’ in 1987. By that time his musical career was already established by playing in groups like the Toon Roos Quartet and the European Jazz Trio.

During the years he has performed and recorded withJazz giants as Art Farmer, Ernie Watts, Bob Malach and Toots Thielemans. But also pop artists like Jan Akkerman, Trijntje Oosterhuis and Georgie Fame are included in his versaitle career as a drummer. As a producer he recorded the award winning ‘Jamesz trio’ and Guitarist ‘Eef Albers’ At the moment Roy is touring with the Michiel Borstlap trio, Trijntje Oosterhuis, the ‘Mike del Ferro Belcanto trio and the European Jazz Trio.
